County moves on short

SEVIERVILLE — The Sevier County Commission approved moving forward with constructing a new short-term rental household garbage site on Ridge Road.

The commission approved allowing Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters to negotiate a sublease with the Sevier County Fire Chiefs Association, who leases the property from Sevier Solid Waste Inc., a joint venture between Sevier County, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg.

“We have met numerous times in both our Special Solid Waste Committee and also the Intergovernmental Committee on a short-term rental site. This would be in the Center View area,” Waters said.

The Special Solid Waste Committee met before the commission meeting to discuss plans for the present site, including additional compactors.

“There will be more said about that in our September meeting as there would be some more details we’ll bring forward to you regarding this short-term rental disposal site,” he said.

Earlier this year the county commission established a fee schedule pertaining to short-term rental household garbage sites within the county. At that time the county also discussed the plan of opening its first short-term rental household garbage collection site at the Ridge Road location in fall 2023.

The site will be for short-term rentals who utilize small cleaning companies or subcontractors to dispose of bagged household garbage. The plan is to offer expanded hours and some holiday hours.

The county is also looking at other potential sites around the county, including in Gatlinburg, for the collection of short-term rental garbage collection.
